Sermon Series:  Engage

Series Big Idea:  In the TV Series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard’s is charged with exploring the galaxy, investigating new planets and meeting new people!  His ship, the Enterprise, is the main vessel used to travel to these destinations.  But to get there, the coordinates have to be entered in and then the crew waits for the Captain’s order.  “ENGAGE!” He shouts and they are off to their destination.

 

For the next four weeks, we are going to explore areas of our lives where we have to be engaged.  This means being a participant instead of spectator and a doer instead of a waiter.  It means exploring your innermost fears and stretching your impossibilities.  Be ready to ENGAGE!

 

Message Title:  Addiction

 

The Big Idea: There are many reality shows out there and I must admit I watch a few of them.  I am fascinated with human behavior and to delve into the reasons into why people do what they do.  One such show is called “Hoarders”.  These are people who accumulate many items in their home and for some reason have no sense of throwing away anything and I mean ANYTHING!  For some people it is food, for others it is dolls or clothes.  The accumulation of items becomes obsessive and it does not stop!  It become an addiction.

 

Addiction is any thinking or behavior that is habitual, repetitious, and difficult or impossible to control.  What are you struggling with?  Are you ready to take on your addiction?  It may not be drugs or alcohol, it may be something such as worry, television programs, or music.  Are you ready to engage your addiction?
